Battery range has been a concern for many South Padre Island drivers since the introduction of EVs. Understandable, since early electric vehicles had smaller batteries with low ranges. While that might work for running errands around Brownsville, it’s not good for long drives. Not only does the Hyundai IONIQ 5 range the highest in the brand’s lineup, it’s also one of the fastest-charging EVs on the market.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 mile range does depend on the configuration you choose. The entry-level IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range model has a range of 220 all-electric miles. However, the other three vehicles in the line– the IONIQ 5 SE, SEL, and Limited– all offer a range of 303 miles.
To keep it more affordable, the base-level Hyundai IONIQ 5 SE does have a lower battery range because it runs on a smaller battery—125 kW of power output and a 58 kWh battery system capacity. The other trim levels have a power output of 168 kW with their 77.4 kWh batteries.
No matter which Hyundai IONIQ 5 trim you choose, you’ll be able to get the fastest charging available through public DC charging stations. The 77.4 kWh battery can be charged from 10 percent back up to 80 percent in 18 minutes, a time that’s better than most EVs on the market. On your Level 2 home charger you can expect a full battery in just under six hours for the SE Select Range, and in just over seven hours for the other trims.
The best way to experience the EV lifestyle is to take the Hyndai IONIQ 5 for a test drive in Brownsville. Or, if you’re interested in learning more about Hyundai EV and hybrid vehicles, visit our EV education hub and Hyundai information hub for a wealth of information about the future of driving.
